rip alexander mcqueen

Alexander McQueen passed away today, the cause reportedly a suicide. Such a sad loss. The man was a genius. But sometimes people just can't shake their inner demons, I guess.

I remember being in awe of the beautiful, otherwordly quality of his last collection. His passing will surely be felt in the coming Paris and London fashion weeks.

halston

Love, love, love these ethereal dresses by Halston for Spring/Summer 2010. What more could a girl want from a summer dress than flowy white fabric, delicate gold beading, and simply flattering lines? I want all three!

*sigh*

naeem khan

Truth be told, since I shifted careers last year, I haven't been paying as much attention as I used to to the NY fashion world. I didn't really check out what went on in the tents until today when I needed a break from studying for GREs and cooking chili. I guess that these days, fashion is just one other thing I love indulging in (as much as say, a great meal, a masterfully made cocktail, or a fantastic vacation), but I refuse to live my life for it anymore. That said, there are still some things that make my heart skip a beat.

These beautiful gowns by Naeem Khan just made me swoon. No intellectualizing, no groundbreaking silhouettes, just plain old beautiful clothing. I would kill for the gown in the middle, seriously.

At the end of the day, I don't need or want to make an earth-shattering statement with my clothing. I just want to look beautiful! Thank you for understanding that Naeem Khan.

lanvin resort

My vacation photos ought to look like this, though I don't think the boyfriend would be up for posing with me like that. I especially like the model roadkill pose.

Just some fun Lanvin resort photos that brought a tiny smile to my Monday. Good morning!

dior couture

I wish I had the gumption to go out in an outfit that's one part lingerie, one part fabulous. In this economy where it's increasingly painful to cough up cash for clothes, much less luxe underpinnings, Dior is prodding the lingerie industry along by suggesting we wear innerwear out.

The models look fab, for sure, but I don't think I have it in me to prance out and about in a slip or tap pants!

valentino dreams

My dream for today is to someday be so loaded that my LBD can be Valentino couture. Amen.

couture

I'm probably guilty of this too, but I do hate it when people misuse the word couture. I couldn't help but grimace yesterday, for instance, when I was watching a rerun of Gossip Girl and that model frenemy of Little J blurts, "Be careful! That's couture!" referring to Little J's creations that were being shoved into a van. I mean come on. However much work was put into those fictitious frocks, they are not couture! UGH. Anyway. No need to get worked up before going to bed. My point is ... it's that time of the year when our eyes can feast on the real deal. I just love these two images from the Chanel Fall 2009 Couture show. Especially that dress on the left. Oh la la, you will give me sweet sweet dreams.
