The Chiconomist is a blog about a girl who loves the good life—and her persistent (yet not always successful) mission to live the fab life in New York without breaking the bank.
A New York transplant originally from the Philippines, I was a fashion & beauty editor for a luxury lifestyle magazine in a previous life. Once upon a time, my 9 to 5 consisted of perusing designer clothes, testing obscenely overpriced moisturizers, sampling the fare at fine restaurants, and evaluating the consistency of sand at high-brow resorts.
In 2006, I moved to New York to study fashion merchandising at the Fashion Institute of Techonology and instantly fell in love with the city.
After a brief fling with the Big Apple's fashion and luxury retail world, I settled into a 9 to 5 designing websites. While far less glamorous, it gives me the time to enjoy this wonderful city that I call home. These days, I write and blog for fun, and have found much more fulfillment this way. Years later, I am still madly in love with this city that never runs out of surprises and always keeps me on my toes.
My every cheap and chic find is recorded on this blog so do sift through the posts to read about the gorgeous things I've unearthed in sample sales, the bars I've been a lush at for happy hour, the restaurants that I've eaten stellar prix fixe meals at, the brunch spots that have prodded me out of hungover stupors with magical Bloody Marys, and the generally amazing things that only happen here in one of the greatest cities in the world. I hope you'll come to love it as much as I do.
