hunting down trunks

I've been on the hunt for a large trunk to use as a coffeetable in my living room. I want something where can stow the guest bedlinens and pillows, but also use as a surface for drink glasses, bottles and food that inevitably make their way to the livingroom. What I really want is this trunk my mom put in my room back in Manila, which is made of ebony colored wood inlaid with Mother of Pearl. If I could plead with her to give it to me AND somehow find a way to ship it to New York, that would be the most amazing thing. But what'll most likely happen is that I'll have to hunt something down here ... Anthropologie has some very cool trunks but I don't like the back of it, which is unfortunately painted black. Why, oh why? I love that they're made of reclaimed wood though, and you actually get these two trunks for $398. Not too bad, I guess ... but still not perfect, so the hunt continues!

try craigslist for sure! or garage sales. but I'm not sure if they have garage/yard sales in nyc. maybe stoop sales?

my grandmother has one that I love. but hands off, its mine! :)

thanks for the tips! you're right, I should really check out Craigslist. that whole Craigslist killer turned me off the website, but duh, I guess as long as I stay in the realm of furniture and off exotic ads I should be fine!

Hmmm the stoop sale is not a bad idea! I have loads of stuff to get rid of!
