I need help dear friends! I'm attending an Indian wedding this August in London and don't know what to pack! I understand and am looking forward to the idea that it will be a loooong celebration. But are some days more formal than others? Am I expected to be in Indian attire at all? A friend told me that this is only expected if you're actually in the wedding party. Any truth to that? Finally, is a cocktail dress acceptable for the main celebration or does one have to wear a long gown? Your input would be much appreciated!

sorry for the re-post ... I noticed some mistakes ....
GET THEE TO JACKSON HEIGHTS!
You should load-up on some bangles, look at some costume jewelry, take some long earrings ...
a tea-length dress
an ankle-length dress
and if you really want to invest in something Desi ... get a salwar kameez, especially the ones that look like dresses with tights underneath. That way you can re-purpose [wear the top as a dress out, the tights with a simple tunic, etc]
Check out the boutiques in Jackson Heights, or look at Seasons India [http://www.seasonsindia.com/eCom/sz_sea.jsp]There's a kameez on there that is about $93 which is pretty cheap.
My general guideline for getting dressed for any Desi party is to make sure my cleavage and my bottom is covered ... other than that you can pretty much wear anything.
Thanks Shar! Awesome advice! I will definitely run out to Jackson Heights and see what I can find (god help my credit card)
oh, and don't forget gold sandals ... those go with everything.
Cel!
When Rosh got married in Manila it was a WEEK LONG that consisted of celebrations but I only went to her wedding.. not so sure how it will be in London, but I was wearing an LBD (there are pics on my facebook for reference)as the main wedding event was by the poolside of Sofitel... you can ask Bea as she attended all of the celebrations (I now regret not attending) :)
