Lucky Strike

My friends decided to do an "active" night out last Saturday, rather than our typical food and boozefest. We went to the newly opened Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge on West 42nd Street and 12th Avenue. The music is loud and thumping, a nice way to start a Saturday night. The space is massive, with rows of bowling lanes, pool tables, and a lounge that manages to be both cozy and roomy at the same time.

We were perfectly happy chilling out in the lounge where service was friendly and easy to come by. But our friend Mia was absolutely insistent on bowling, so she signed our group up for a slot. The wait would be one hour, but we didn't care much as we would've been happy to just drink. Drinks and food are not super cheap here. I paid $7.50 for a Corona (!!!) and $8.50 for a gin and tonic. But I would much rather cough up that dough for a night at Lucky Strike than, say, Marquee.

Mia was given a gadget shaped like a remote control that would blink once it was our turn, and boy did she jump with sheer joy when it did. We settled up our bill and went to put on our bowling shoes. I was pretty happy with the shoes. I've been to bowling lanes with grubby, grimy shoes and this certainly wasn't one of them. The shoes were quite new, fresh and clean. We went to our funky neon lit lanes and got ready to bowl, while our friends who didn't feel like playing sat in the small lounge areas behind the lanes. There was some maximum 2-hour bowling thing in effect that night, so we ended up playing for two hours and paying about $27 each. Again, not cheap. BUT! I found out that Lucky Strike has a weekly Monday Night Block Party with $22 all-you-can-bowl from 8PM until closing. Note that Lucky Strike has a 21+ policy after 5:30PM from Monday to Friday and after 7PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Definitely a fun alternative to the usual Saturday bar crawl!
