Word for the Day: Snood

Stella McCartney's $295 wool, silk and cashmere blend snood

You learn something new everyday. A snood, according to Wikipedia, is:

... a type of headgear, worn by women over their long hair. In the most common modern form it resembles a close-fitting hood worn over the back of the head. The band covers the forehead or crown of the head, goes behind the ears and under the nape of the neck. A sack of sorts dangles from this band, covering and containing the fall of long hair gathered at the back of the head. A snood is sometimes made of solid cloth, but sometimes of loosely knitted yarn, or other net-like material.

According to Net-a-porter.com, a snood is one of fall's trends! It does seem quite practical. I always look like Strawberry Shortcake in hats, so maybe a snood is my best bet. Though, at the same time, I fear that only beings with faces like Agyness Deyn can get away with this. If I could pull it off, it would be great come winter time, when the Midtown windtunnels attack pedestrians with incredible wind chill (the Trump Tower by the UN is already getting me, and it's still presumably summer!). Check out Stella McCartney's version of the snood. Looks very boho chic, but a snood for $295? I don't know ... Betcha H&M will have a cheapo version in 3, 2, 1 ...

The snood as part of an outfit. It doubles as a scarf when you don't need to cover your head
